The idea that man is destroying his habitat is a fear that I share with many. Being born in a post-war Germany I realize the pain of WWII and the destruction and havoc it created. My work emerges out of past experiences and current concerns, it touches on childhood and adult fears; of global warming, the horrors and fears of the war and the Holocaust as well as the childhood angst evoked by the Brothers Grimm. I seek to merge these fears and feelings in visionary apocalyptic landscapes through painting etching and in sculptural glass. I try to use the countless possibilities glass provides me with to show my concerns in 3D. The images can be interpreted as fragments left after the cataclysm– be that memories of the future or of the Holocaust and WWII. The work on canvas, while apocalyptic also speak of rejuvenation, re-birth and the cycle of life. My thinking and working methods are influenced by - the works of Anselm Kiefer, the Abstract Expressionists and especially Helen Frankenthahler’s soak-staining method of painting.
